You Matter & Someone Loves You

you-matter-you-are-lovedSometimes we find ourselves questioning the meaning of life. We wonder what our true purpose is. We ask questions like, why is life so hard, why is there so much suffering, and what am I really here for? Sometimes we even ask the question, why am I alive?

I just learned of the death and apparent suicide of a beautiful woman. She was someone who had a family and friends who cared about her and loved her. She had so much to look forward to… and apparently, she didn’t see it that way. Or perhaps she forgot that she was a beloved child of God, a member of a community who needs her unique and magnificent presence and perspective to complete our divine journey here together. I wonder what she was thinking in her final coherent moments.

I wonder what you’re thinking right now.

Do you know that you are loved and needed? Do you know that setbacks or tough times don’t last forever? Do you know that you are powerful beyond measure? One thing I know for sure is that your presence here is not an accident. Your life on earth right now was divinely planned. You have made a meaningful and specific impact on everyone whose life you have touched. And whether you know it or not, you have made someone’s life better with a simple smile, a gesture, a kindness, or your mere presence. You have given someone hope. You have loved someone exactly when and how they needed to be loved.

You are someone’s miracle.

I know life feels hard sometimes. I know there is so much more that I don’t understand about life than what I do. I don’t know why bad things happen to good people. I don’t know why loneliness exists. I don’t know why we have to go through trials with health, relationships, or finances. I don’t know why we are faced with tough choices instead of easy ones. I certainly don’t know the meaning of life.

We’re all in this alone, together.

I believe that each of us travels a singular path that, at times, and usually with our intention, converges with other beautiful souls. It is up to us to nurture this connection and recognize the role we play in each other’s lives. Even though we come into this physical life alone and we leave alone, we have so many opportunities in between for connection.

If you feel you have lost this connection, I invite you to think about your primary focus. Literally, think about what you are thinking about. I invite you to expand your focus beyond your own space, your body, and your circumstances. I invite you to look outside of yourself for the many possibilities for connection. I invite you to ask yourself different questions like: Who do I love? Who loves me? Who can I help today? And perhaps the most important question of all to ask is, what am I grateful for? When you answer these questions, you will find more meaning in your life. You will remember why you are here, and you will begin to recognize or redefine your purpose.

And one more thing I invite you to do is contemplate this truth… You are a beloved child of God. You are here for a divine purpose. You are loved and loving.

You matter and I love you. I really do.
