Have You Forgotten Mother’s Day Already?

Mother's-Day-CardWe haven’t! Why? Because Mother’s Day celebrates one of the most important relationships of our lives. Our mothers are our first loves, our first connection to the world, and in the womb they are literally our source for life. We rely on our mothers for nourishment, energy and life force. We learn from our mothers how to live and love and function as productive members of our families and communities. We learn from the lessons they teach us, we learn from the stories they impart and we learn from the example they provide with their actions as we see them care for others and themselves.

My Mother, My Self

If you look closely, the relationship you have with yourself may mirror the relationship you had or have with your mother. You may find that you subconsciously measure your worth and judge your place in the world through a lens that mimics the standards of your mother, even though you consciously may have outgrown these standards and have set new ones for yourself. A mother’s hold stays with her children. So often, I see women who are still trying to gain the approval and earn the love of their mothers long after they have become mothers themselves, and sometimes even long after their own mothers have passed on.

The Mother-Daughter Bond is a Visceral and Strong Connection

and One that Remains with Us Forever

It has been said that all women are mothers whether we have children or not. Although life has not sprung from the womb of a woman, she still has nurturing instincts and a deep-seated need to love and care for others. As nurturers of children, people and the planet, we are all mothers, all creators and all connected at the level of the heart.

Honoring our Mothers Honors Our Creator

On this Mother’s Day and every day, as we honor our mothers, let us also know that we are honoring the values of love, connection and nurturing. We are honoring sacred relationships and also we are honoring our Creator from which all life springs and remains eternal. Love springs forth from the hearts of mothers and we love them for it.

Fantastic article, very insightful, and inspiring as well. This piece gives a nod to all women on Mother’s day for reasons not necessarily realized by most…and I like that perspective
