Making Room for What Matters Most

Your day starts off as it usually does – wake up, take a shower, make breakfast and pack lunches, get the kids off to school, kiss hubby goodbye and settle into your routine. And then, bam! The phone call comes that changes everything.

Schedules go out the window, plans are put on hold and you suddenly realize that you haven’t spent nearly as much quality time with the people who matter most to you as you now wish you had. How did you let so much left unsaid? How did you let so much time get away from you?

The answer is simple. It’s life.

So often we allow our everyday practices to drive us instead of us deciding which way to go and what to do next. And we often do this at the expense of making time and room for what and who matters most to us. In our rush to be successful and get ahead, or even to make ends meet, we neglect a simple phone call, we cancel plans to get together, and we tell ourselves they’ll understand. And then, bam! Suddenly there’s a wakeup call, or worse, we find there is no more time.

How can we change this?

We must decide who in our lives is most important and make room for them. A dinner with friends, a long overdue family vacation, or even a ten-minute phone call serves to connect us and keep us aligned with our highest values – love and connection. How about a new motto?

People first, everything else second.

If we keep our priorities in line with our values, there will be no room for regret; instead we’ll always make room for what matters most. Now, that’s Powerful!

Gratitude: I am grateful for the loved ones in my life.

Intention: I make time for the people who matter most to me.
