Putting All Your Eggs in One Basket

BXP35164As long as I can remember, I have opted for putting all of my eggs in one basket. I simply decided what I wanted and went for it; and nine times out of ten, I got it! I was never a fan of second and third choices either, unless it involved ice cream flavors or pizza toppings. I learned at an early age that I almost always got what I set out for, and even though I witnessed others who this didn’t always work for, I couldn’t see any reason for me to change my way of getting what I wanted.

Some people used to tell me I was lucky and that no matter what I always came up smelling like a rose… I remember smiling at them and knowing they were right.  Then, as I moved further along in life and got into my late twenties and early thirties, my experiences began to change a bit. My dad passed and our business went bankrupt, and I spent many lean years trying to regain the magic I had known in my youth. Where was my Midas touch? Where was the luck I took for granted? Why were things harder and harder to attain?

Back Up Plans and Settling

Looking at my rocky road, I started to second guess my strategy. I heard lots of people saying things like “Life is hard”, “You can’t have everything” and “You’ve got to take the bad with the good”. On some level I started to believe them, because it seemed that this was what was happening to me. Little did I know I had it backwards.

Thank Goodness for Wake Up Calls

Then, right before my fortieth birthday when things seemed pretty bleak, I attended a Tony Robbins seminar that set off a string of events for me. I started to look more closely at my thought patterns and beliefs.  What I realized is that I had started to buy into many negative, widely-held beliefs that I was hearing. I had let go of my own powerful beliefs of ease and fulfillment that had guided me in my youth. I had stopped believing in the magical powers of my mind.

When I realized that it was the shift in my beliefs that was causing the shift in my experience, I knew I could get my ‘mojo’ back. I practiced affirmations and set new goals. I focused daily on my vision and desires, and I let go of the negativity of others. What I found then and still know to be true is that putting all my eggs in one basket works for me. I keep my vision alive and in front of me and keep the fires of my positivity well stoked. I move forward courageously towards my desires and I surround myself with people who support my dreams. As long as I do all this, I don’t need a back-up plan or a second choice. All I need is my belief in my personal power and the world is my oyster. It’s your oyster too!

Now, that’s Powerful!
