PEACE BEGINS WITH YOU!

Peace is the Beginning, the Middle and the End

In times of stress, struggle or unexpected mishaps, it seems that we are seeking peace as the end result.  We want a peaceful circumstance, a peaceful resolution, and a peaceful mind.

As Mohandas Ghandi said, “There is no way to peace.  Peace is the way.”

The best way to get to peace is not to look to it as the end result; instead we must start with peace. We must think thoughts and speak words of peace. Peace must be with us every step of the way and if it is, then peace remains in the end as well.  Where does peace come from?

Peace comes from within.

You can find peace in your breath, in your belly and in your heart, and when you find it there, you must transmit it to your thinking mind.  From your thinking mind you must move peace to your tongue. Exude peace from the whole of you to the object of your discomfort.

Peace begets peace, and when all is said and done, only peace remains.

Now, that’s Powerful!

Today is the International Day of PEACE. Celebrate and intend peace for the world. It all starts with you. Join the GLOBAL MOMENT OF PEACE.

PEACE be with(in) you.

GET THE FUNK OUT!

Sure, being in a funk happens sometimes. Circumstances come about, stuff happens, people say things, life takes an unexpected turn, and suddenly we’re on a downward spiral. FUNK is in our experience. And here’s the deal…

FUNK is a mind job.

FUNK is a head case. It happens between your ears. It happens when you allow your thoughts and fears, worries, and anxieties to get the best of you. You allow them to take control and move you further into the abyss. It doesn’t have to be that way!

FUNK is within your control.

FUNK can be whisked away as easily as it was allowed to manifest. It’s as simple as directing your conscious awareness AWAY from the FUNK and TOWARDS something better suited for you. FUNK isn’t fun, and it also isn’t fatal. You CAN release it. You’ve got the POWER, baby! Use it.

Now, that’s Powerful!

Wishing you power and release,

Sue

Gratitude is a Practice

Gratitude is a Practice

Feeling grateful is something you have done on and off your whole life. As a child, you were in an almost constant state of gratitude, because you were always drawn to that which made you feel good. There are specific moments that are etched forever in your memory that, when you think about them, you feel a profound sense of gratitude.

The feeling of gratitude is sometimes hard to put into words, because it is so complex.

It is immensely satisfying and deeply humbling. It is a huge overtaking sensation and a small, simple pleasure. It is thrilling and exciting and it is peaceful and quiet. And although the feeling of gratitude may be hard to describe, it is undeniable. If you are unsure about how to feel the feelings of gratitude, ask yourself this simple question: What am I grateful for today? When you have an answer, notice how you feel. Then ask the same question, and again notice how you feel. Continue this process until you feel a fullness, a warmth and a glow in your heart. Ask until you feel your breath deep within your lungs and belly. Ask until you feel a smile on your lips or tears welling up in your eyes, or a fullness in your whole body that feels as though you might burst with joy.

The physical feelings of happiness for someone or something are the feelings of gratitude.

Your whole body, mind, and spirit will be immersed in gratitude and you will remain happy and grateful as long as you think these thoughts and allow these feelings.

What are you grateful for today?

Now, that’s Powerful!

With gratitude and love for you,

Sue

Positivity vs. Negativity ~ What Wins Out?

beautiful young woman with dandelion lying on grass

Positivity vs. Negativity ~ What Wins Out?

Sometimes it’s tough to stay positive. There’s certainly negativity all around us – newspapers, online news sources and TV news stations are filled with it. They use negativity for dramatic effect to improve ratings. There are plenty of negative people too – those who dwell on the “bad stuff” and make things seem worse than what they are. And of course, there are actual horrible, unthinkable situations that befall us. All of these may cause angst, fear, and even depression … if we let them.

There’s also positivity all around us.

Positivity is a choice and an action. The same news sources we mentioned earlier also highlight some good news – hopeful stories of people helping people, new discoveries and advances, and inspirational human interest stories. There are plenty of positive people too – those who talk about and focus on what’s good, and operate from a space of compassion, love and kindness. There are beautiful, heart-warming, love-filled occurrences every single day too. All of these may cause happiness, motivation, and open-heartedness … if we let them.

It all comes down to a single decision.

Mindset. Directing your mind to focus on the positive aspects of what’s in front of you is a decision you make in each moment. Setting your eyes to see the good and the silver linings that are always available takes dedicated focus. Taking steps in the direction of light rather than darkness may be difficult at first because it’s sometimes easier to follow the crowd that complains and commiserates instead of uplifting yourself and others. All these points of decision are yours as you move through the day.

Decide right now to be positive.

There will always be negative people in the world. Sometimes I think the reason they’re here is to remind us how miserable we could be if we chose to look at life like they do. There will always be ‘bad’, sad and horrible things that happen; it’s our ability to accept them as they are and seek whatever good is to be had from them that will determine our feelings about them.

Your ability to be positive, live in your truth, and stand in your personal power as you emanate love from your heart is the thing that will bring peace, calm and even joy to the moments of your day.

“You got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, and latch on to the affirmative. Don’t mess with Mr. In Between.” ~ Ann M. Martin

Mantra for positivity:  Accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative.

Now, that’s Powerful!

Namaste` and Positivity to you!

Stop ‘shoulding’ on yourself.

Stop ‘shoulding’ on yourself.

You are where you are because of every single thing you’ve done and said and thought up to this very moment.

Every decision, person, and event has played a part. If you keep thinking things ‘should’ be different, you’ll remain stuck in the now, unable to move forward.

Release the shoulds.

Free yourself.

All is well.

with love for you,

Waking Up Happy

Happy young woman enjoying sunny morning on the bed.

Waking Up Happy

How did you feel when you woke up this morning? Did you open your eyes and feel excited, energized, and well-rested? Did you have a sense of well-being and ease? Did you feel ready for this day?

Was today a day you woke up happy?

So many of us simply wake up, stretch a little, and roll out of bed without even giving thought to our feelings. We don’t take time to assess what’s in front of us. And we might not even take a moment or two to set intentions for the next 16 hours or so that we’ll be awake.

It’s like we’re on auto-pilot.

And so, the day becomes whatever it becomes, and we are subject to the whims and wishes of those around us – the kids need a ride, the dog has to go out, hubby needs you to pick up the dry cleaning, neighbors want to chat, your boss needs a new intro for her presentation, your mom calls to talk about your aunt, and your clients need some hand-holding. In the meantime, you barely have time to pee, let alone figure out what you want and need as the day progresses. Before you know it, it’s nine o’clock, you’re picking up toys and clothes around the house, and putting on your jammies.

Where do the days go?

It doesn’t have to be this way. You know that the simple act of taking a few moments for yourself in the morning, maybe even before you open your eyes and put your feet on the floor, will make a huge different in how your day plays out. You know that a single intention set before you move into action brings with it the power to change your whole day. You know that you have more control than you have allowed yourself to realize, not over the needs and requests of others, but over your own desires, thoughts, and actions.

An intentional moment in the morning can carry you through the whole day.

I invite you to reflect on how your day is flowing so far, and I invite you to make it different tomorrow. Set a single intention before you jump (or leap or roll) out of bed. Know that this single intention will impact every single interaction for your day. Maybe your intention is a single word, like peace, love, ask, awareness, or faith. Or maybe it’s something different like stay grounded, listen before speaking, have fun, don’t let them bug me, or I’m on my way.

Whatever your intention, keep it top of mind throughout the day. Then, maybe – just maybe – tomorrow, you’ll wake up happy.

Now, that’s Powerful!

Blips on the Screen of Life

I’ve been thinking a lot lately how random life seems at times, and yet how purposeful it can be. It depends greatly on our thoughts and actions…and isn’t that always the case? Here are some musings on the topic.

Blips on the Screen of Life

There are occasional moments that occur to upset regular everyday life as we know it. They may show up as a family emergency, a client who is not happy with the service you provided, a random comment, or a secret revealed. This singular occurrence can throw the status quo into the stratosphere.

Depending on how you view and handle these events,

they may have positive or negative effects on you for years to come.

You may simply file them in the “Hmmm… what just happened?” file never to be looked at again, or they may serve as a time of awakening. You may awaken to the fragility and beauty of life. You may awaken and be reminded of the importance of service to others. Or you may awaken to know that every word spoken and every deed done really does matter to someone and may affect them for the rest of their life.

Although these occurrences may appear as oddities or freak behavior, they are real, and they have happened to you for some reason. What’s the meaning of it?

The meaning of anything is whatever you give to it.

When something out of the ordinary happens to you, take a good look and decide whether you will file it or awaken. It’s your choice. As you choose, keep in mind, the blips on the screen of life are here for you, so take a good look and use them for your highest good. Now, that’s Powerful!

Wishing you blips of awakening, Sue

Lose the Busyness ~ Gain Your Life

Lose the Busyness ~ Gain Your Life

Do you ever have too much on your plate? Are you overbooked, overworked, and overextended? Do you run out of hours in the day before you run out of tasks and activities to do?

Yes, I can hear you snickering and sighing, and I can even hear your brain rattling in your head as you shake it ‘yes’ with great force. And I can almost hear you thinking “this is normal”. Well, although this might be the norm, it is far from where a normal, in-touch individual should set their sights. And yet…

The truth is, you are not alone!

Overcommitting and overdoing it are so common that we’ve come to expect it from ourselves and from everyone else too. People that live healthy lives with healthy boundaries and who allow themselves time for fun, relaxation, and ‘me time’ are sometimes thought of as slackers. Of course, the people that call these self-respecting, practical, and well-balanced individuals slackers are the ones who run themselves ragged, have frayed nerves, and are often yawning or snapping at others due to a lack of downtime and rest.

Some might call this the typical life of an overachiever; I call it crazy.

I’m all for working on your hearts’ desires and for making the most of life. I’m for striving and doing what you know is the right thing to do in every moment. I have come to realize this also means sometimes the right thing to do is nothing at all. Sometimes, you simply need a break, a time out, or a nap.

Sometimes you must stop the doing, so you can get it all done.

I invite you to look at the busyness of your life and ask yourself some clarifying questions. Is what I’m doing necessary? Is it critical? Is it important? What would happen if I cut back or stopped doing some of the things on my list of to-dos’? Would important parts of my life suffer – or would they improve? How would it be for my relationships, career, health, finances, spiritual and emotional well-being? Ask yourself these questions. I can tell you from experience that it’s worth exploring.

In doing some soul searching, I’ve found that I go in spurts of getting caught up in the busyness and striving for the future without even enjoying the moment I’m in. I recognize that I would have been more productive and even happier if I had I let go of some of my ‘musts’ and traded them for some ‘I want to’s’ – and for some rest too. It’s an ongoing journey for me that’s getting easier as I practice it. I’ve cut back the busy and am more mindful of the moment—and I find I get more accomplished from this rested space. I hope you’ll do it too!

Now, that’s powerful!

with much love and many blessings,

Sue

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday was my birthday! I am basking in the glow of being celebrated and celebrating myself. And even though I celebrated all last week with fun little presents, a few dinners out, a marvelous dark chocolate and whipped cream cake, and had many people singing to me at different times, I am continuing my celebration into this week too. Yes, over the past few years, I’ve been celebrating my birthday week and sometimes longer… but it wasn’t always this way.

For years, I didn’t feel that birthdays were very important. It didn’t matter to me whether or not I celebrated, if anyone called to wish me a Happy Birthday or sing to me, whether I had a cake with candles, or if I got any cards or presents. And even though all these things happened each year like clockwork, and even though I enjoyed when they happened and I felt and appreciated the love, I still looked at my birthday as just another day.

And then, a few years ago it hit me that I had been missing out on what I know to be a crucial element of life.

CELEBRATION — and specifically, the celebration of one’s life and individuality and uncommon purpose in this global community in this exact space and time.

Look, I know that we are all unique and special individuals and that there are no two people exactly alike. The planet is full of people who share many of the same traits, values, feelings, and desires that we have – and many of them we’ve never even met. Sometimes, we even look like some of them – you know, they say we all have a twin somewhere. And although we respond similarly to certain stimuli, and sometimes speak the same thoughts and laugh at the same jokes, there are more nuances than we can count.

So, on this day, I remind myself that I am a rare and singular woman and that the way I think and move and show up in this world is my own. I can’t believe this is a mistake or an accident. Am I perfect? Hell no. Am I yet all I am intended to be? Hell no, again. I am a work in progress, and an ever-evolving original. Some people call me a ‘piece of work’, and that’s okay by me because it’s true.

I know that I, just like you, am made in the image and likeness of God. And because this is true, all we have to do is look around to see that God is multi-faceted, multi-cultural, multi-talented, and infinitely intricate and magnificent. I love looking into the face of another and reminding myself to see the face of God. I love looking into their eyes and seeing light and meaning, and I love listening to their voice and hearing the whispers of angels. This is one of my new practices – it’s not always easy, but it is always worth it.

So, the days are gone for not celebrating and giving proper credence to my birthday. Now I celebrate and dwell on the beauty and wonder of life, how I landed here in this very moment, and what awesome experience I am going to have next. I also relax into the ease and privilege of doing nothing at all if that’s what I choose…because that’s what life is, a series of choices and thoughts and doings.

I CELEBRATE everything that led me to this very moment and every representative candle on my cake. And although for years, I had been thinking that birthdays were just like any other day of life, I now know that celebrating me is just as important as celebrating you. And so today, I thank God for this beautiful life, for my options and experiences, for my family and friends, and for each and every taste, touch, smell, and breath.

I decided that my birthday is a time to count my blessings and set my intentions. I am counting you as one of my blessings and setting the intention to stay in touch more often.

AND because it’s my birthday, and I love to give, I have a present for YOU! Check below to ‘open’ yours!

And so, having shared with you my birthday thoughts, I am now going to continue my celebration by having chocolate whipped cream cake and coffee for breakfast.

Ahhh… life is good. Happy birthday to me!

With love and gratitude for you,

Sue
